Shape the future of IBM watsonx Orchestrate

Start by searching and reviewing ideas others have posted, and add a comment (private if needed), vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you.

If you can't find what you are looking for, create a new idea:

  1. stick to one feature enhancement per idea

  2. add as much detail as possible, including use-case, examples & screenshots (put anything confidential in Hidden details field or a private comment)

  3. Explain business impact and timeline of project being affected

[For IBMers] Add customer/project name, details & timeline in Hidden details field or a private comment (only visible to you and the IBM product team).

This all helps to scope and prioritize your idea among many other good ones. Thank you for your feedback!

Enhanced Contextual Identifier and Input Access for Tools

Currently, tools integrated with the IBM Orchestrate platform do not have direct access to contextual identifiers such as the thread_id or agent context inputs associated with the ongoing conversation. Introducing direct access to these elements would significantly enhance agent-tool interactions.

Proposed Enhancement:

Enable tools to automatically access contextual conversation identifiers (thread_id) and agent context inputs through a dedicated runtime object or context object.

Allow tools to directly retrieve these identifiers and context inputs from the runtime environment, removing the need for agents to explicitly pass these details as parameters.

Benefits:

Reduced Complexity: Eliminates the need for manual parameter passing by agents, simplifying both development and debugging.

Improved Reliability: Reduces the risk of errors caused by incorrect or omitted parameters by automating context injection.

Enhanced Traceability: Enables more effective logging, tracking, and analytics by consistently linking interactions to conversation threads and context inputs.

Implementing this enhancement would streamline agent interactions, reduce potential errors, and greatly improve overall efficiency and clarity in conversation tracking within the IBM Orchestrate platform.

Thank you for the feedback, would mind to give an example of use of thread_id you see most pressing (mostly for tracking purpose?) as well as what "agent context inputs" do you refer to?
