Shape the future of IBM watsonx Orchestrate

Start by searching and reviewing ideas others have posted, and add a comment (private if needed), vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you.

If you can't find what you are looking for, create a new idea:

  1. stick to one feature enhancement per idea

  2. add as much detail as possible, including use-case, examples & screenshots (put anything confidential in Hidden details field or a private comment)

  3. Explain business impact and timeline of project being affected

[For IBMers] Add customer/project name, details & timeline in Hidden details field or a private comment (only visible to you and the IBM product team).

This all helps to scope and prioritize your idea among many other good ones. Thank you for your feedback!

FLEX-FLEET — Virtual power plant orchestration agent for DER dispatch

FLEX-FLEET — Virtual power plant orchestration agent for DER dispatch

Problem: In July 2026 PJM proposed curtailing data centers during electricity shortages rather than building enough supply for every possible spike, while connecting new load takes nearly five years on average (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory). Yet the distributed answer already exists: the U.S. Department of Energy estimates 80–160 GW of virtual power plant capacity by 2030 could cover 10–20% of peak demand and save about $10 billion a year. The blocker is operational, not hardware — utilities lack agents that can enroll, dispatch, and settle thousands of batteries, thermostats, EVs, and building loads as one coherent resource.

Idea: Add a watsonx Orchestrate agent that enrolls distributed energy resources, dispatches them as a single virtual power plant against grid signals (frequency, price, curtailment requests), tracks device-level metering evidence for settlement, and enforces each owner's preferences and override windows (e.g., an EV that must be charged by 7 AM). The pattern is proven at scale: Google contracted 1 GW of data-center demand-response capacity in March 2026 and agreed to a 100 MW VPP in June 2026; Heartbeat AI's white-label platform (April 2026) shows the aggregation software layer is maturing.

Value: Peak demand gets met without building new generation where interconnection is slowest, device owners earn real revenue for flexibility, and utilities gain dispatchable capacity that responds in seconds instead of the years a new line takes.
